Help inform the future of aged care navigation

Australian Healthcare Associates has been engaged by the department to conduct an evaluation of the Aged Care System Navigator Measure.

You can contribute to the evaluation by:

• Sharing your views in a phone consultation (max. 30 mins) on how to best support people who are navigating the aged care system in Australia
• Sharing information about relevant Australian or international system navigator models that you are aware of in aged care or other comparable sectors.

Transitioning to the new Aged Care Quality Standards

The Commission has released some updates to ‘Guidance and Resources for Providers to support the Aged Care Quality Standards’.

New content added to:

Standard 1 – Purpose and scope of the Standards:

“They are also expected to be responsive, inclusive and sensitive to consumers who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. The consumer defines their own identity and this should be respected and not questioned.”

Standard 3 – Requirement (3) (d):

Inclusion of “changes” or deterioration in the health or function of a consumer.

Minimising physical and chemical restraint in residential aged care

Restraint must only be used as a last resort.

The Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP has announced new regulatory requirements to minimise the inappropriate use of physical and chemical restraints in aged care homes.

The Quality of Care Principles 2014 have been amended to reflect specific requirements that come into effect on 1 July 2019.

Phase one grant opportunity for the Specialist Dementia Care Program is now open on the GrantConnect website until Tuesday, 28 May 2019.

Approved providers of residential aged care with a service in one of the Primary Health Networks below are invited to apply to operate a specialist dementia care unit.
